Here is a list of frequently asked questions regarding SelExL:


Q1: Will SelExL run against an Oracle 7 database?

SelExL is not designed to run against an Oracle 7 database. SelExL is supports access to databases using Oracle versions 8i, 9i and 10g. However if you have a real need to use SelExL against an Oracle 7 database then please contact Christallize to discuss your requirements and we will see what can be done to help.


Q2: I have a number of Oracle databases running on VMS machines can I use SelExL against them?

Yes you can use SelExL against databases running on VMS (or any other platform for that matter) but only via a SelExL installation running on a Windows, UNIX or Linux platform.


Q3: Can I run multiple copies of SelExL against the same database at one time?

Yes you can run multiple copies of SelExL against the same source database providing they each use a different Oracle user to connect to the database.


Q4: Will SelExL work against databases other than Oracle?

No, SelExL currently only works against Oracle databases. In the future there maybe versions of SelExL that will work against other relational databases such as SQL Server, DB2 and MySQL.


Q5: Is there a limit on the number of tables that SelExL can extract and load?

SelExL has no limit on the number of tables that it can extract and load.


Q6: Do I need to have foreign keys in place on my database to use SelExL?

No, SelExL does not require the existence of foreign keys to allow it to operate.


Q7: Does SelExL require database links to be set-up between the source and target databases?

No, SelExL does not need any database links.
